Jack o'lantern!

Remember that old and disgusting camp song about eating worms? "First you bite the heads off, then you suck the guts out..."?

Don't know it? Don't worry! You won't be learning from your child, for I would never teach it to your impressionable children! Because I am a Tasteful and Responsible Adult. For all you parents of the other variety, ask me after hours and I can tell you how it goes.

Today kind of reminded me of that song. First we chopped the head open.

"What's in there?"
"There are seeds in there!"
"It is dark in there. Move your head, I can't see."
(If you click on any of the pictures, you'll get a larger image.)

Then we scooped the guts out...

The guts were fun! They were also wet, cold, slimy, slippery, and slithery. We learned some great words at daycare today!

Owen wasn't interested in scooping too much, but he did try to nab one of the seeds. Thus learning the concept, long before he can say the word, of "slithery". Sneaky little things, wet pumpkin seeds!

Here we are: implements, pumpkin, and bowl of pumpkin guts! We are Very Proud.

Four smiling faces!

Why yes, yes he did! (Mostly)

Cliff expressed some doubt that Owen had actually made his craft with his very own pudgy little hands. It took some concentration, mind you...Well, probably a lot of concentration... and the contac paper did tend to stick to those pudgy hands.
But he did it! On his very own!
And when he picked the whole thing up and started to crumple it, we declared him "Done, now!" quick, before he ruined it!

But yes. That craft was at least 70% Owen-made.

Isn't he so cuuute?

Going domestic with a punch!

You saw the end product on Friday. I thought you'd like a peek at the process. Mixing the ingredients in the bowl is always interesting, but it was when we started KNEADING that they really got involved...

Ella gives it her all.
Josh has a go.

Put it back in the bowl, cover it with a towel, set it someplace warm... An hour later: "It's BIG!"

"We get to HIT it?!"
They were a little uncertain at first...

But they soon got the hang of it!

Making bread is SO MUCH FUN!!!

The Little Mothers lose the baby

"Look! We're sitting with Baby Owen!"
The girls are thrilled. Owen is ... ambivalent.
The girls are still thrilled.
Owen is taking action.

"Awww. He got awaaay." Think Eliana will get over the disappointment?
