We Are Not Amused

We had a very large box in the living room for a few days, because very large boxes, though undoubtedly Huge, Space-Sucking Pieces of Ginormous Clutter, are also Very Much Fun, for the children and the wildlife, both. (No, your children are not wildlife. Not normally.) Daisy is particularly partial to this one corner... gnaw, gnaw, gnaw...
Addie contemplates Daisy's incursion into the corner...
Contemplates, and then delivers her judgment:
Daisy is a bad dog.
Addie is not amusied.

Success!

I bought a new change purse. Not only is it pretty in a way specifically designed to catch Nora's attention, but it has a clip-clasp. She was fascinated. I showed her how it worked, then left her to it. It's a significant fine-motor challenge, and also takes some strength for tiny fingers. It took some determined effort, and a deal of concentration...

but she did it!!

Isn't that a satisfied little face??
And did it, and did it some more. That change purse probably kept her happy for a good ten minutes.

Doctor, Doctor!

We put together a doctor kit this month, and the kids have been loving it. I gathered a few things from around the house, then sent Rebekah (our family nursing student) to the bookstore at the hospital for some Real Doctor Things.

Did you know you can get a Real Stethoscope for less than $20?? Amazing. Rebekah helps the girls with the stethoscope.
Addie impales her patient's eyeball checks pupil dilation.
"Say 'Ah!'"

Stethoscopes feel a little weird in your ears.
Dries shows me the medicine cup. His baby drank it alllll up!
Dr. Dries, intent on his ministrations.
Dr. Ella heads for surgery.
When one says 'ah', all the mouths go open...
Ella is determined to try out all the equipment. I hope her patients survive. (If that baby doesn't develop some reflexes soon, it's going to be short a kneecap. Just sayin'.)
Dr. Ella has a decidedly impish look to her...
