I happen to know that a few families are Looking Forward to special events. As the summer progresses, there are sure to be more -- holidays, visiting grandparents, concerts, all those great summer things!
If you know the actual date of your event (which sort of precludes New Baby Sibling countdowns) these Countdown Sticks are a great idea. More tangible than boxes on a calendar, they help give your tot the idea of the passage of time, which is a hugely challenging concept for children of this age. (Okay, in truth it's beyond them yet, but this is a nice way to help them inch their way toward it!)
If I were doing this, I'd use the calendar to count the days until the event, then count out the requisite number of popsicle sticks to decorate. If I wanted to encourage the idea of reading a calendar, I might even make a calendar with pockets with one stick in each pocket, and remove one each day.
See? There's lots and lots of inspiration out there!
