Home-Made Crackers

One rainy day last week, we enjoyed a cooking activity using a recipe for Cheese Crackers, taken from one of my recent favourite food websites: 101 Cookbooks, by Heidi Swanson.

We grated cheese, mixed and stirred the dough, helped Ilona roll it out, and then (the FUN part!!!) cut the crackers out with cookie cutters. You have to press the cookie cutter hard, hard, HARD. It takes a lot of pushing. Addie gives it her all, while Nora thinks encouraging thoughts...
Dominic was pushing hard, but froze when he realized the camera was pointed his way. :-)
It takes concentration...

Focus...
Effort...

and teamwork!
Addie and Ella confer intently over the finished product. NOM. (Daisy lurks hopefully...)

In fact, Daisy shows remarkable self-restraint. Not one single cracker was torn from a toddler's hand during (or before, or after!!) the taking of these pictures.

A little more effort than goldfish crackers, perhaps, but way more tasty, much healthier, and SO! Much! FUN!!!

Home-made cheese crackers. Something to try at home, maybe. I know we'll be making them again!
